Brian Vallo is director of the Indian Arts Research Center at the School for Advanced Research. As both an institutional director a potter from Acoma Pueblo, he brings a deep understanding of the issues involved with collections and native communities. He has started in-depth conversations between the communities that produced the artworks and the institutions where they are housed, and in doing so are reaching greater understandings of the works themselves and creating new guidelines for institutions to display and conserve these works in appropriate and ethical ways.
